MEET SJ

In 2017, I stumbled upon the transformative practice of meditation, and it has become an integral part of my life ever since. At a crucial turning point, when both my personal and professional lives were overwhelmed with stress, I found myself desperately seeking solace. Like many, I struggled to maintain my true self amidst the chaos, experiencing sleepless nights, loss of appetite, and constant anxiety. Concerned for my well-being, my partner reached out to a friend who suggested exploring meditation as a means to find relaxation and focus in the present moment. Though initially unfamiliar with the concept, I embarked on a journey of research and discovery, delving into the realm of mindfulness and gradually assembling a toolbox of wellness practices to draw from during moments of doubt, struggle, and heightened anxiety. To this day, I continue to rely on this toolbox.

By day, I work as a Marketer and in 2018, an opportunity arose within the business. Allowing employees within the division to pitch an idea to learn something new during a one-month sabbatical, with the aim to bring it back to the business upon their return. I proposed a trip to India to immerse myself in meditation and mindfulness practices, with the intention of developing better coping mechanisms for myself and sharing these insights with my colleagues. During my time in India, I resided in a meditation center, absorbing every learning tool available to me. I devoured books, enrolled in courses, and eagerly sought out information. Upon returning to the UK, I dedicated myself to studying and became a qualified relaxation, meditation, and mindfulness instructor.

Back at my workplace, I began hosting weekly meditation sessions at L’Oréal as well as facilitating mindfulness sessions for various other businesses, including New Day and Mount Anvil Ltd.

I founded Balance with SJ with the mission to spread my knowledge and inspire others to cultivate mindfulness and embrace the present moment. To fully commit to this pursuit, I recently embarked on a 9-month career break to dedicate more time to Balance with SJ. I also seized the opportunity to enrich my mindfulness journey by becoming a qualified Level 3, Pilates Matwork Instructor.

Despite still having moments of anxiety and stress, even over seemingly trivial matters, meditation and the tools I've incorporated into my life reassure me and guide me to a place of serenity. While thoughts of the past and future still occupy my mind, I strive to remain grounded in the present moment.

I have since moved back to the Kent countryside (where I grew up) from North London and now offer sessions for a unique and transformative experience that combines the benefits of Body Control Pilates and Meditation.
